Around 1:10 a.m. on January 14, 2020, two Hall County Sheriff deputies tried to make a routine stop with a vehicle who had a taillight out.

The man, later identified as Marvin Tard Jr. of Stone Mountain, tried to evade the traffic stop by putting his car into reverse and ramming into the car of the deputies. As Tard drove forward, one of the deputies took a shot at the car, hitting Tard in the arm.

Neither deputies were injured in the altercation.

After taking the shot, Tard was only able to drive for a short distance further before his car ended up striking a utility pole. He was taken from the scene to Northeast Georgia Medical Center for treatment and then released to the Hall County Jail, without bond.

His list of preliminary charges includes two counts of aggravated assault on the deputies, fleeing police, taillight violation, one count cocaine possession, and possession of drug-related objects.

The Georgia State Police intend on adding several traffic violation counts to his charges, as well as DUI.

A spokesperson for the Georgia Bureau of Investigation adds that this is the second officer-involved       shooting that they have had to investigate so far in 2020.
