Rome Teenager Flees on Foot After Being Pulled Over for DUI

Some people don’t realize that running from the police will never help your situation. 19-year old Tiquez Desean Sams learned that the hard way this week. The young man, who lives in Rome, Georgia, was driving his vehicle through Rome County last Thursday. It was May 7th when Floyd County police noticed that a man driving in front of them appeared impaired. They pulled him over and, at first, thought the driver was going to comply with their request. Instead, the young man, who ended up being Sams, pulled over and proceeded to jump out of the passenger seat of his car.

As soon as he jumped out, the young man hid a stolen gun under his vehicle. Then he took off on foot. He was no match for the police, however. This could be due to the fact that he had smoked multiple blunts before he was pulled over. The cops caught up with him in no time at all.

As the police commanded him to stop, Tiquez Sams ignored them. They had to tase him to get him to stop trying to flee again. He admitted to the police that he had been smoking marijuana shortly before driving.

Sams was arrested and taken to the Floyd County Jail where he was held on a $5,700 blanket bond. He was charged with misdemeanor DUI. He was also charged with felony theft of a stolen weapon, reckless driving, driving without a license, and carrying a weapon without a license. Since Sams is under 21, he isn’t legally allowed to apply for a weapons permit.

It appears Sams is still in jail and will have to face the music soon. If you or your teen are arrested and charged with DUI in Athens, call our office right away.
